“We rise by lifting others.” — Robert Ingersoll ![]() As someone often planning trips, tackling boat projects, or simply juggling a full day, I’ll admit—I don’t always have time to reach out to every friend who crosses my mind. It doesn’t mean I’m not thinking of them. Like many of you, I get caught up in the day to day. Recently, I was listening to a podcast where the host offered a simple reminder: reach out to someone. Just one person. The idea struck me—if each of us made one small connection, imagine the collective shift it could create. And our world needs that today more than ever. The holidays, especially, can amplify feelings of being alone. Not necessarily lonely—just a little disconnected. We assume everyone else is surrounded by family, wrapped in tradition, or swept up in plans. But the truth is, many people quietly move through this season on their own, often staying in the background, not wanting to say they’re feeling isolated. A simple message or invitation can mean more than you realize. When someone pops into your thoughts, consider inviting them for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. Nothing fancy—just a warm check-in. I took that advice myself and reached out to an older woman who lives alone. I invited her to breakfast. She’s excited to get out of the house—and I feel good knowing it mattered. Here are five easy ways to reconnect naturally, without it feeling like a production:
I’m grateful to say, traveling to so many places has given me friendships and acquaintances scattered around the globe. Sometimes months or years go by between visits, yet a quick email or message keeps those ties alive. Ironically, it’s often the people closest to us who can be the hardest to reach out to—we assume there’s always tomorrow, until suddenly there isn’t. And while you’re reconnecting with others, don’t forget to reconnect with yourself, too. Maybe that means a quiet walk by the water, a slow morning, or finally realizing, you deserve that trip. Even a small adventure can reset your bearings in the best possible way. If the new year is calling you toward warm seas and fresh horizons, I have a few 2026 journeys that might be just the reset you’re craving—good company, beautiful islands, and the space to simply breathe. Here’s to simple kindnesses and staying anchored to the things that make you feel alive. Wishing you a holiday season filled with warmth, connection, and light. Joy |
