Why Sail the BVI?

Because this is where sailors go over and over again to really sail.

Warm trade winds, clear turquoise water, beautiful anchorages, and islands close enough together to create relaxed sailing days have made the BVI one of the world’s most beloved sailing destinations.

But this is much more than simply renting a boat. This is a hosted, small-group sailing vacation led by Captain Joy. You do not need to assemble a crew, plan the route, provision the boat, or have any sailing experience. You simply arrive ready to explore.

Some guests are eager to take the helm, trim a sail, and feel the catamaran pick up speed as the trade winds fill in. Others head to the bow, brace into the breeze, and enjoy the thrill of sailing between islands with the water rushing past below. There are active sailing days, lively crossings, swim stops, snorkeling, and time ashore. You can join in, learn as you go, or simply enjoy being part of the motion and adventure.

Your Floating Home for the Week

Step aboard a spacious 50-foot luxury catamaran designed for comfortable island living.

Catamarans offer generous outdoor gathering areas, a shaded cockpit, room to relax on the bow, and private cabins with ensuite bathrooms. The wide design provides more stability and space than many first-time sailing guests expect.

You will unpack once and wake up somewhere new throughout the week.

One morning may begin in a quiet island anchorage. Another may start with a swim before breakfast. By afternoon, we may have picked up a mooring ball near a lively beach bar, gone ashore for a rum drink, and returned to the boat for dinner. Then it is time to relax, watch the sunset, and perhaps enjoy a board game or two with your fellow travelers.

The boat becomes more than transportation. It becomes our home, our gathering place, and the best seat in the islands.

Life Aboard

Mornings begin with breakfast aboard while we talk about the day ahead.

The itinerary remains flexible because sailing is shaped by weather, wind, and what the group is enjoying. We may sail to another island, stop in a protected bay for swimming and snorkeling, explore ashore, or linger somewhere that deserves more time.

Lunch is prepared aboard and may be served while underway or after anchoring for a swim.

In the evenings, we may enjoy dinner aboard or go ashore to experience the BVI’s open-air restaurants, beach bars, and waterfront gathering places.

There is structure to the week, but not the rushed feeling of being moved through a fixed schedule. You will have time to swim, explore, talk, rest, and enjoy where you are.

Food and Island Flavors

Breakfasts, lunches, and some dinners are prepared aboard by our own cook.

Meals are fresh, casual, and suited to life on the water. We also leave room in the itinerary to enjoy local restaurants and some of the most memorable waterfront dining spots in the islands.

A BVI favorite is the classic Painkiller cocktail, especially when paired with fresh conch fritters and a sunset view.

Some meals will be enjoyed together aboard. Others will give you the opportunity to step ashore and experience the personality of each island.

Island-Hopping Highlights

Our exact itinerary will depend on weather and sailing conditions, but possible stops include:

Cooper Island, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Norman Island and Pirates Bight, Bitter End Yacht Club and Saba Rock, Cane Garden Bay

Swimming, Snorkeling and Time to Relax

There will be opportunities for daily swim stops, along with snorkel gear, floats, water toys, and a paddleboard aboard. You might snorkel among reef fish and sea fans, paddle through a protected bay, or float beside the boat with nowhere else you need to be. You may also decide that your perfect afternoon involves a book, a shaded seat, and the gentle movement of the boat. There is no schedule of mandatory activities. The trip is designed to give you choices.

Who Is This Trip For?

This trip is designed for adults who want a more personal and immersive way to experience the islands.

Couples are welcome. Friends are welcome. Solo travelers are especially welcome.

Many Joyride guests arrive without knowing anyone else aboard. The shared experience of sailing, eating together, exploring islands, and relaxing away from everyday routines makes conversation come naturally.

People who were strangers at the beginning of the week often leave feeling as though they have traveled with friends.

You do not need sailing experience, and you do not need to consider yourself adventurous. You should simply be comfortable living aboard a boat, entering and exiting a rubber dinghy, and approaching the week with flexibility and curiosity.

Your Captain and Host

Captain Joy is a USCG-licensed 100-ton Master Captain who has hosted sailing vacations throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Europe, and other international destinations.

Joyride Charters has been creating sailing experiences since 2004.

Captain Joy manages the sailing, itinerary, logistics, and life aboard so guests can relax and enjoy the destination. Her hosted trips are designed to feel personal, welcoming, and well organized without becoming overly scheduled.

This is not a large cruise, a bareboat rental, or an anonymous cabin charter.

It is a thoughtfully hosted sailing vacation with a small group of people sharing one extraordinary week.
